Dai Ou is looking into a dusty classroom, I’m looking at the paved but weedy school yard. The classrooms are lined up in a row with no internal corridor. According to Dai Ou, the morning starts with the students lined up in formation in the school yard for a flag raising ceremony.

Basketball is very popular in China. In this school yard the basketball court was made with bits of broken porcelain embedded in the concrete.
