taken just outside of town from the highway.
This is across the street from the preceding picture. Ya’an has four or five gas
stations for a city of 150,000, all, like this one, just outside of town, and all, like this one,
usually empty of cars.
We followed this river to the next little town.

This woman was crossing the river on stepping stones to work in the fields, and on her
way she paused to do a little maintainance with her knife.
